MISSION STATEMENT
The National Association of Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Councillors (NABAEMC) aims to provide ethnic minority councillors with an effective national voice on issues of concern to ethnic minority communities. The Association also provides a forum for members to network, exchange ideas, share information, support each other and also discuss best practice with respect to race equality in local government. The Association actively highlights the under-representation of the people from ethnic minorities' backgrounds in local political decision-making and champions more representative local government and community leadership. It is a primary aim to encourage greater diversity in local government and to help ensure equitable public services.
KEY AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The Association aims to provide a national voice for ethnic minority communities. Ethnic Minority councillors are well placed to articulate key concerns of the minority communities as elected representatives and to help monitor the level of service delivery to diverse communities. Where key issues arrive, we aim to raise these concerns with the appropriate authorities and agencies including central government.
The Association aims to participate fully in key programmes and consultative processes where our voice should be heard.
The Association aims to provide important networking and communication opportunities whereby councillors from the ethnic minorities can gather together, exchange ideas, network and discuss important issues with respect to promoting race equality at the local government level. The flow of communication between ethnic minority councillors will be encouraged and supported.
The Association acts as an information resource keeping ethnic minority councillors informed of key developments and important issues. When the resources are available we will be providing quarterly newsletter.
The Association wishes to encourage more members from ethnic minority communities in becoming councillors and also wishes to encourage the increased development and success of those ethnic minority Councillors already elected.
The Association aims to continue to establish active productive and positive working relationships with various bodies/agencies such as the GLA, LGA, IDeA, LGIU and CRE to assist progress in achieving our aims.
